Frequently Asked Questions

We understand that seeking an assessment can come with many questions. Here are answers to some of the most common ones.

Still have questions?
Diagnoses serve as a framework for understanding your child and what they need. Labels help children develop healthy self-esteem by recognizing their strengths and understanding their difficulties. Without a diagnosis, children often cannot access the services and support they need. We are committed to celebrating each child as a human being with a unique personality, skills, and abilities.
We embrace a neurodiversity-affirming approach, viewing different processing styles as valuable for solving problems. We welcome when children arrive with suspected diagnoses — it shows self-awareness. However, our assessments may reveal different findings than expected. We use thorough interviews and standardized testing to determine accurate diagnoses.
We use multiple assessment methods to detect symptom minimization or exaggeration. We gather data from parent interviews, child interviews, medical professionals, standardized testing, teacher reports, and behavioral observation. One data point alone does not equal a diagnosis — we look for consistent patterns across environments and sources.
Testing is available for children from 0–12 months onward, and is particularly helpful for developmental tracking. Earlier intervention produces better long-term outcomes. That said, older children, adolescents, and young adults also benefit from assessment when new challenges emerge. There is no wrong time to seek clarity.
Psychological testing focuses on emotional, behavioral, and cognitive functioning — such as ADHD, anxiety, depression, and learning disabilities. Neuropsychological testing goes further by examining brain-behavior relationships, making it ideal for children with complex medical histories, multiple diagnoses, traumatic brain injuries, or neurological conditions. Both types of assessments are offered at Salt Lake Neuropsych.
We accept several insurance plans as well as private-pay clients. We are in-network with Select Health Value, Med, Share, Care, and Community Care. Dr. Salisbury is also in-network with EMI / Educators Mutual. For insurance plans we are not in-network with, we provide superbills (detailed receipts) you may submit to your insurance for potential out-of-network reimbursement. Please contact us for details about pricing and payment options.
Our evaluations typically involve three appointments: an intake session to gather history and discuss concerns, a testing session where standardized assessments are administered, and a feedback session to review results and discuss next steps. The entire process generally takes place over several weeks to allow thorough analysis of the results.
No referral is needed to schedule an evaluation at Salt Lake Neuropsych. You can contact us directly to begin the process. However, some insurance plans may require a referral for out-of-network reimbursement, so we recommend checking with your provider.
